Why is this project such a big deal right now?

The Project 2025 has been around in one way or another since early 2023. However, in the most recent months, the Biden campaign made an effort to raise awareness of this project, especially among voters.

His campaign also turned the project into some sort of symbol of the hard-right political shift that it says would naturally occur in the United States if Trump were elected. Biden also stated this week that the “Project 2025 will definitely destroy America.”

His campaign also made a web page dedicated to the project. The Democratic National Committee in July announced a list of plans for billboards which also mentioned Project 2025 in 10 cities.

A Supreme Court ruling in early July implies that presidents have broad immunity from prosecution for actions taken while still in office. It heightened concerns among some Trump opponents that the project’s main agenda is to increase presidential power, which is deemed to be particularly dangerous.

The Trump campaign, in exchange, expressed increasing annoyance with the project, repeatedly putting emphasis on the project’s proposals, and reiterating that they are separate from the campaign’s official policy platform.

In a recent statement to Reuters, a campaign official went on to accuse the Democrats of fearmongering, stating that only the official Republican platform and another series of proposals from the campaign (Agenda 47) should be taken as official.

“Team Biden and the DNC are 100% lying and fearmongering, that’s because they have nothing else to offer to our citizens.” Danielle Alvarez, the campaign spokesperson, explained.
