Nobody Thought These 6 US Celebs Would Join Politics (Yet They Did)

Would you vote for a celeb who became a politician?

We’re so used to seeing celebrities when we watch TV or hear about what happened at the Oscars. We see them at film festivals, music festivals, concerts, and in the front row during Fashion Week across the globe, but have you ever thought about seeing them get involved in politics?

Donald Trump isn’t the only popular man and real estate magnate to impress or shock the world with their political views. With a strong fan base, big communities on social media, well-known names, influence, and a strong voice in society, celebs have a unique way of getting involved in politics.

With an affinity for attention and a name that is on everyone’s lips, winning a political campaign is probably not as hard as it is for other people. Take Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for example.

He was a fantastic comedy actor in Ukraine, and he starred as the president of a funny show called “Servant of the People”. The series was so appreciated by people that it motivated the actor to run a campaign for the presidency. And what do you think? He won!

But in today’s article, we’ll talk about all the American celebs who wanted to make their spotlight scene bigger and decided to give politics a shot. Are you curious? Let’s take a look!

1. Cynthia Nixon

If you’ve watched the popular show “S*x and the City”, you already know what a character Miranda Hobbs was. She was a lawyer, constantly trying to improve in her field and doing her best to achieve the career of her dreams while living a comfortable, happy, and exciting life.

Miranda was a strong advocate for people’s rights, so we can say that the character she gave life to for many years is similar to her real personality. In 2018, Cynthia Nixon, a beautiful celeb and liberal activist, announced that she wanted to run for governor in the state that she loves the most: New York.

She challenged Andrew Cuomo, who was a nominee from the Democratic Party, but she lost. According to statistics, she only received 35% of the total number of votes, so she didn’t have a big chance to beat Mr. Cuomo in politics.

It’s probably because people didn’t agree with the celeb’s campaign, as she’s a star who was involved in many relationships with both men and women, and she tried to militate for LGBT rights in the United States, especially the right of people of same-s*x to get married and have a beautiful life together. Would you vote for the celeb if she tried again?

2. Linda McMahon

Who would’ve thought that a celeb known for her fantastic wrestling career would give up fighting for a seat in the political world? We surely didn’t! In 2009, Linda McMahon, who used to be an amazing World Wrestling Entertainment CEO, ran for a place in the United States Senate from Connecticut as a Republican.

She wasn’t happy when she found out that in 2010, she lost the general election in favor of Richard Blumenthal, who was a nominee from the Democratic Party. She tried again in 2012 but didn’t succeed this time either.

Donald Trump believed in her political knowledge and wisdom, and he appointed the celeb as the administrator of the Small Business Administration. She was in this role from 2017 to 2019. Did she do a good job? You tell us, so leave a comment down below, and let’s talk about this!

3. Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood was a fantastic film producer, actor, and composer, and when he entered the political world, he already had a big fan base. Pretty smart move, right? The celeb is famous for his roles as tough guys, such as Inspector “Dirty” Harry Callahan in the “Dirty Harry” series, so if you haven’t watched it, you definitely should.

In 1986, when the celeb decided that it was time to try something new and see how he would be as a politician, he was elected mayor of California, and after that, he was chosen to the California State Park and Recreation Commission in 2001 under Governors Gray Davis and Schwarzenegger. Good job, Mr. Eastwood.

When journalists ask him about his political views, the celeb says that he’s a libertarian, and in 1999, he told a magazine that he was a fiscal conservative and a social liberal way before everything became the new trend.

4. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Another celeb that entered the political world was Arnold Schwarzenegger, a man who was popular for his action movies as well as for his fantastic career as a bodybuilder.

He began his political journey in 2003, when he ran for the post of Governor of California in a recall election. He served as governor of California for a good period of 8 years, from 2003 to 2011.

Even though he couldn’t run for a third term due to the terms and conditions established by the Constitution of California, the celeb has a passion for the political world and is motivated to work towards a better goal, which is why he has become a strong promoter of environmentalism since he left the office.

Do you agree with the celeb’s political views or did you like him better as a Hollywood star? We can chit-chat in the comments, so leave your thoughts down below!

5. Stacey Dash

If you watched the movie “Clueless”, you sure know what an amazing actress Stacey Dash used to be (if you want to watch this movie on DVD, here it is). She left the Hollywood world to be a Fox commentator, but not all of her statements were appreciated by people.

The celeb has long been vocal about her support and appreciation for conservative politicians and movements, but one thing that made people raise an eyebrow was during her time at Fox News, when she publicly claimed that then-president Barack Obama didn’t give a “s**t” about all the problems related to terrorism.

Her comment gave her a 2-week suspension from TV, but that didn’t stop her. In 2018, she wanted to run for Congress in California’s 44th district, but when people started to have high hopes for her, she publicly announced that she talked to her family and decided that it was best for her if she would simply stay out of the elections because it might affect her family. And she backed out of her bid.

That can only make us ask a question: would she have won if she hadn’t backed out?

6. Sonny Bono

The last celeb on our list is Salvatore Phillip “Sonny” Bono, a man who was a very talented singer, actor, and songwriter, as well as a very appreciated politician. His Hollywood career started with the help of his second wife, the amazing singer Cher, when they started their singing duo, “Sonny & Cher”.

In 1988, the celeb thought that he might be a good politician, and he totally went for it. In that year, he became the mayor of Palm Springs and kept his position until 1992. After that, he moved on to bigger things, and in 1994, he was elected to the House of Representatives. He only served in this position for 4 years because, in 1998, both his political career and life came to an end. He will be forever missed!
