More than that, he was a board member of the Harlem Gas Light Company, the Brooklyn Bridge Company, and the Third Avenue Railway Company. Oh, and we forgot that he was also the president of the Guardian Savings Bank. So, yes, this man had immense influence over the political world of New York.
In 1858, he became the face of Tammany Hall. But the moment he gained absolute power was when he was appointed to several boards and commissions. And not long after this, Tweed committed his first mistake: accepting and distributing bribes. Tweed spent $600,000 on the New York Republican Party in order to have new city alliances restore authority to City Hall and give Tweed complete control. He was controlling all the money in the city through the Board of Audit.
The Tweed Ring was founded, and William “Boss” Tweed and his cronies controlled New York City until 1870. Using theft, bribes, and kickbacks, they siphoned off large sums of money from New York’s budget, ranging from $40 million to $200 million.
After he was caught, Tweed needed to pay bail, but because he was not able to, he took another route. He managed to escape from jail. But all of this effort was in vain because he was caught shortly after.

Does this look right? If they have to tax because of what the wage earner makes, shouldn’t it be only on their Social Security payments, the $22,000? The tax percentage was changed from 16 or 18% in 2020’s. It is one of the reasons I quit work this year after working 55 years. As for what is wrong or right with America it is for American voters to contact their politicians with their pros and cons.
