He expended his coalition, and most of them were men

What made this election historical is how popular Trump grew in the Latino community. He managed to win 46% of the Latino vote! This is even higher than George W. Bush’s performance in 2004.

The interesting thing is that this spike in Latino voters was driven primarily by Latino men. On the other hand, Harris managed to win the Latino women with 60%, but this was not enough. It was something like Harris won the moms while Trump won the dads.

A similar gender divide could also be observed in younger voters aged 18 to 29. Harris won 61% of the votes among women, but Trump edged her out among young men. He simply dominates because he won a significant number of men from any group, and the female vote didn’t have enough force to offset Trump’s gains.

It’s clear to see that the male audience resonates more and more with Donald Trump, and this can be observed across all racial, ethnic, and generational lines.

The whole landscape favored Republicans

It was clear from the start that the 2024 election was always going to be an uphill battle for the Democrats. For the past two years, most Americans were not happy with the current economy and were also more and more concerned about issues like border crossings.

It’s true that there were some good changes, such as low unemployment, rising wages, and lower inflation, but Americans are still struggling with higher prices and the lack of affordable housing. Even more, the Federal Reserve’s efforts to fight inflation implied raising interest rates, and this only made things impossible for people trying to get mortgages or car loans.

Angry voters place the blame on the Biden administration despite the economic growth experienced after the pandemic. The US recovered so much faster and better compared to other countries.

In the view of voters, Vice President Harris tried to distance herself from economic issues. And Trump’s widely criticized management of the pandemic was hardly a factor this time, as people longed for the robust economy of five years ago.

Voters believed Trump more, not just on economic issues but also on immigration, crime, and foreign policy.

A steady MAGA base

It’s clear that one of the main factors that led to Trump’s victory in the 2024 election was the support he received from the loyal MAGA base. Despite countless problems and legal obstacles that would have certainly ended any other politician’s political career, Trump’s key followers stayed loyal.

Political analysts say that just 50% of self-identified Republicans consider themselves part of the MAGA movement. His supporters made sure to spread the word that the numerous investigations and prosecutions he faced were nothing more than political persecution. This seemed to work, and this is how more and more people decided that Trump was just a victim of the corrupt political system.

Even more, almost two-thirds of Republican voters always maintained their position and consistently maintained that the 2020 election was a scam, and they simply have an unshakable belief in Trump’s version of events. This is for sure an important factor that helped him win the 2024 election.

The results only reflect a worldwide trend

The results of 2024 are less surprising if we look at them through the global lens. incumbent candidates and establishment figures start to lose more often against anti-establishment, “strongman” leaders. The loss of Vice President Kamala Harris is just another example of this phenomenon.

But what made the public opinion suddenly shift? The main factor is the fear and uncertainty that people feel worldwide caused by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing economic challenges, such as high inflation.

People are simply anxious about their future, and they want leaders who have a decisive, no-nonsense approach rather than the ones they already have or are associated with the current leaders.

The “anti-institution movement” is a global trend that shows us how people don’t trust government agencies, universities, schools, and medical systems anymore. These institutions should help society advance, but right now most people refuse to give power to any of them.

Political parties have shifted

According to many political reporters, the base of Republicans is now mostly made up of working-class people, whereas the coalition of Democrats is disproportionately composed of professionals, university professors, and other specialists.

The Democratic Party is now home to “the enforcers of propriety,” or people who are seen as the guardians of established systems and norms. At the same time, the Republican Party became more appealing to working-class voters who felt that the above-mentioned people and institutions betrayed them.

The split is also visible in how many industries identify with the two parties. Based on the data, those working in highly skilled information industries are more inclined to vote Democratic, while those operating in agriculture and mining are more likely to favor the Republican Party and Donald Trump.

The inconsistency of the information

One thing about the 2024 election is that the information people received was not that accurate, particularly around key issues like abortion rights and economic relief measures.

Kamala Harris made women’s reproductive rights a central focus of her campaign. On the other hand, Trump didn’t discuss this issue in his campaign. This message resonated more with his supporters. A lot of the news resources Republican fans consumed were not discussing the threat to abortion access or rights.

Another example of inconsistent information is about the way the stimulus relief bill passed during Trump’s first presidency was perceived. Initially, Trump didn’t want to pass the bill but he had to ultimately sign the law. In the end, people don’t care about it at all and what matters at the end of the day is that Trump gave them the checks.

There are many factors that led to the win of Donald Trump, but time is the only one that will show us if Americans made the right decision or not. What do you think about his win? Do you believe he will make America great again? Tell us more about what you think in the comments section!
