William Rufus King

The reason why King is on this list doesn’t necessarily come from all the scandals he provoked or his blatant incompetence, but because poor King was vice president only for six weeks since he tragically died of tuberculosis.

Let’s just say that William Rufus King loved wearing powdered wigs long after they ran out of style. He was also the only bachelor vice president, and he lived with James Buchanan, the nation’s only bachelor president. Naturally, they eventually got nicknames, one of them being “Siamese twins”.

John Breckinridge

John Breckinridge was voted into office during James Buchanan’s presidency at only 36 years old. Up to this day, he is still the youngest person to ever hold the office.

Before he ran away to escape charges of treason, he was actually a pretty popular vice president. During the tumultuous 1860 elections, which were eventually won by Abraham Lincoln, he decided to go back to Kentucky, urging the state to secede at the outbreak of the Civil War.

However, Kentucky remained in the Union, which prompted Breckinridge to quit the Senate and sign up for the Confederate Army. Given that his state didn’t join the Confederacy, he was automatically met with a ton of suspicion and charged with treason.
