His famous battle with Disney
DeSantis is also willing to fight anyone and anything that might get in his way, and there’s truly no better example than his ongoing feud with the entertainment giant Disney.
If you don’t know this already, Disney is one of the largest employers in Florida. Everything started last year, right after Disney, under both internal and external pressure, decided to publicly oppose the “Don’t Say Gay” law.
As a response, DeSantis decided to take over Disney World’s self-governing district through legislation passed by lawmakers. He also appointed a brand new board of supervisors that would look over municipal services assigned to the sprawling theme parks and hotels.
But that’s not all! He also threatened to build a state prison in the park’s vicinity. The dispute drew plenty of condemnation from business leaders and his Republican opponents.
Ultimately, Disney filed a lawsuit against the DeSantis administration. Funnily enough, this legal battle is bound to follow him through the 2024 presidential contest.
