As Vice President Kamala Harris Runs For President She’s Outlining How She Plans to Tackle Key National Issues
Considering the affirmations she made in the last few months in her speeches, Harris plans to continue a lot of President Joe Biden’s actions, such as giving tax credits to middle and low-income families, lowering drug costs, and getting rid of hidden fees. Harris describes her vision as “an opportunity economy”, focusing on strengthening the middle class and punishing everyone who unfairly tries to raise any costs.
However, Kamala Harris has made it clear that for some matters, she has her own views, like Israel’s treatment of Gazans in its war with Hamas. Her current agenda includes more progressive proposals. She confirmed within her campaign that she moved away from some of her more liberal positions in her 2020 campaign such as supporting a single-payer health system and banning fracking.

11 Things Kamala Harris promised so far in her campaign:
1. Economy
We already know that high prices are a top concern for most of the Americans. After the inflation, many Americans struggle to afford the cost of living. People weren’t satisfied, at all, with the way Biden used to handle the economic situation, which is why Kamala might lose some voters.
Cutting the increased food costs is part of her economic agenda. She doesn’t agree with some grocery chains that are keeping their prices really high, considering their production costs. So, she is going to introduce the first-ever federal ban on price gouging on food and groceries. She will punish all the companies that illegally exploit consumers looking for excessive profits on food and groceries.
In her recent speeches, she used some ideas Biden used to sustain, such as the wish to give Americans unlimited opportunities.
2. Housing
The three-section plan rolled out by Harris is addressing the nation’s housing shortage. So, Harris wants to provide $25,000 for first-time homebuyers. The plan would apply to working families who have paid rent for at least two years. According to her campaign, the plan would allow 1 million first-time buyers per year to access the funds.
Kamala would probably also do what Biden proposed earlier this year: provide a $10,ooo tax credit for first homebuyers.
And that is not all! Harris also plans to build 3 million new housing units that will be affordable for the middle class. In order to encourage construction, she would offer builders the first-ever tax reduction.
The plan has 2 major purposes:
- block landlords from using algorithm-driven price-setting tools to set rents
- discourage wealthy investors from buying up properties by removing tax benefits for investors who buy large numbers of properties
3. Health care
She will continue one of the Biden’s administration plans and efforts to reduce drug costs.
Harris will fight to extend the $35 monthly cap on out-of-pocket costs for insulin. She doesn’t care just about Medicare enrollment since she is trying her best to also expand the $2,000 annual limit on out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs to all Americans.
In the country, 3 major insulin manufacturers offer price caps or saving programs, lowering the cost of insulin for a lot of patients. Harris’s plan is considered great by most Americans since she is trying to accelerate the speed of Medicare’s drug price negotiations.
The results of a first-ever round of negotiations are expected to result in 6 billion in savings for Medicare.
4. Abortion
In January, Harris started a “reproductive freedoms tour”. She embraced more progressive rights than Biden in the 2020 campaign, but her current policies may not differ significantly from Biden’s her advantage is that she could be a stronger messenger.
Her background and experience help Harris a lot. It’s not easy at all for a woman to deal with all kinds of men, but she succeeds in keeping them away from her and fighting for her purposes, no matter what.
5. Climate
Joe Biden has been the most pro-climate president in history and Harris continues his legacy. If she is going to win the presidential elections against Donald Trump, one of Harris’s biggest goals regarding climate is to significantly reduce U. S. pollution by 2035, which is a requirement of the Paris Climate Agreement.
6. Immigration
Trump attacked Harris multiple times on her immigration record. So, her campaign released a video showing her support for more Border Patrol agents and criticizing Trump for blocking a key immigration deal.
In 2020, Kamala Harris suggested that Democrats need to the role of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The White House introduced this year tougher asylum policies to cut down on border crossings, and Harris’s campaign says that these policies will continue if she wins.
7. Israel – Hamas
The Israel-Hamas war has caused multiple protests around the U.S. since it began, back in October.
After meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in July, Harris gave a notable speech about everything going on and the situation in Gaza. She supported Israel’s right to protect itself but also empathized with the importance of how it does so. She expressed her deep concern over civilians and the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing the situation as being “catastrophic.”
Harris talked a lot about the suffering of Palestinians and the need for a ceasefire. In the ceasefire deal, she concentrated on having Israeli troops withdraw from Gaza in stages, instead of discussing prisoner exchanges or Humanitarian aid.
8. Ukraine
The Vice President is very committed to supporting Ukraine. She met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky multiple times and last month she publicly announced that the United States will offer Ukraine $1,5 billion for energy assistance and humanitarian needs.
